New smallpox vaccine safe for eczema patients

A Danish company will be supplying the US government with 20 million doses of a smallpox vaccine that is safe for eczema patients--unlike the existing vaccine, which can cause rampant and life-threatening infection in rare cases. I blog briefly about it on the National Eczema Association website.

  1. I understand this might seem of little interest if you're not in the USA--but it should be. The US is not the only country that a smallpox attack could occur in. And because the US govt is making an order of this size, Bavarian Nordic will scale up production to make the vaccine cheaper. If/when other countries need large quantities of the vaccine, there will at least be a system in place to produce it.
